Paul Milnthorpe and Jim Houlton have completed their Atlantic crossing in 77 days and 2 hours! They are now putting their boat "The Reason Why" up for sale so that some more wannabe ocean rowers can take her across for a third time!
Type of boat - Woodvale pairs class
Year of construction - 2007
Crossings - AORR 2007 and 2009
Price - £15,000
"The Reason Why" was built for the 2007 AORR by Cornishmen Paul Harris (Electrical engineer) and Steve Gardner from a Woodvale pairs timber kit. Finished 4th in 2007 race in a time of 55 days and finished in 77 days in 2009 race. Unlike many other boats she didn’t suffer any problems, electrical or otherwise during either race. She is in good condition with a few superficial scrapes but will probably need re-painting before next crossing. She was dry stored between races and is currently stored near Bristol.
With the exception of a life raft (which we hired), food, gas and a small portion of the first aid kit that was used, she is being sold with all mandatory kit form the AORR 2009 rules and regulations including a new in 2009 Iridium 9555 satellite phone.
Sale also includes an extra handheld GPS unit; extra hand held water maker (Pur 6) for grab bag, thirty six individual days worth of dry food rations and other pieces of non compulsory equipment (Aquapacs etc) . Sale also includes spare head and spare motor for the Spectra water maker
She was described by Simon Chalk from Woodvale to be ”one of the best build Plywood boats around”.
Viewings and surveys welcome, a great boat at a really great price for a quick sale!
We are both very happy to give as much help and advice you could want or need.
